Our values

We are a molecular and computational biology research group. Our mission is to enhance understanding of the plant immune system and its influence on growth and development through rigorous and innovative research and collaboration with academia and societal partners.

We are confident that the full impact of our research work is possible only through close collaborations with partners outside academia.

We value the principles of open access science, scientific integrity, honest, timely feedback, and recognition of hard work made by members of our laboratory and elsewhere.

Our laboratory thrives on teamwork, where different members contribute meaningfully to the projects even if the project is led by a single team member.

We believe that everyone needs to find their unique balance between work and personal life, fostering an environment where scientific excellence and well-being coexist harmoniously. We promote focused, hours-long work sessions, and arrange our work schedule such that every member has some headspace at work. Ability to work in a focused manner and get joy from it is the single most important quality of a researcher.

We believe in the importance of life-long learning. It is normal that experiments do not support the initial hypothesis. However, experiments should be well-designed and have minimal informative controls; there is no such thing as a ‘preliminary experiment’.

We believe in the importance of sharing defining experiences in private and professional life with other team members, confidentially if needed. The personal and team achievements are to be proudly celebrated. In sad moments, if needed, one can always rely on another group member and ask for advice or help (confidentially).
